Victoria Police is committed to offering opportunities for both secondary and tertiary students.
We have two programs designed to assist students in developing their
skills and knowledge in their desired career choice and to ease the
students into the workplace.

Victoria Police Work Experience Program (secondary students)
Our work experience program provides a fantastic opportunity for high school students considering a career within Victoria Police. Students are places at participating police stations and departmental units where they will have the opportunity to obserce and learn from our police officers, protective services officers and/or VPS personnel.
We offer placements to students who are enrolled at a Victorian Secondary school.
The student must be a minimum of 15 years of age at the time of placement and completing Year 10 or above. Placements are only offered to those students studying Year 10, 11 or 12.
The program runs from the third week of February until November each year, placements outside these dates will not be arranged.
Please note, placements take place for one week only (five (5) consecutive business days).
Nominations are to be submitted through Careers teachers only, students are not to apply directly. No placements will be arranged outside the program. Each school can nominate one student per year (unless stated otherwise). A nomination of a student does not automatically guarantee a placement.
Applications will only be considered is all required forms are completed correctly and signed accordingly.
If your student is considering a career within Victoria Police and has a genuine interest in our program please review further information and key dates below. All schools on our distribution list will receive a link to the online work experience portal in August each year. This link will enable careers teachers to nominate a student electronically. Applications will only be accepted if they are submitted via the online portal.
- Applications will open the fourth week of August each year
- Applications close five weeks from the open date
- You will receive notification as to whether your student was successful/unsuccessful within the first week of term four (4)
Applications are assessed and allocated in order of the date they are received.
Due to the high volume of applications received each year for this program, we recommend that you submit your application as soon as practical. Every year we receive more applications than the number of placements available. So the sooner you submit the application, the better change you will have of being successful.
Victoria Police will conduct thorough background checks on students. Successful students will be required to attend a Police Station and be finger printed in due course, instructions on this will be provided when schools are notified within the first week of term four (4).

Fieldwork Placement Program (Tertiary students)
Through the Fieldwork Placement Program (FPP), Victoria Police endeavours to provide meaningful placements for tertiary students to assist in the field
studies component of their qualification.
All placements are arranged directly between the student, tertiary institution and the relevant Officer in Charge of the proposed work location. If you are
interested in completing your placement within Victoria Police you will need to make direct contact with the Officer in Charge at the police station or
appropriate contact at your desired departmental unit.

Youth Employment Scheme (YES)
Victoria Police offers a number of placements under the Youth Employment Scheme (YES) Program.
The YES Program is a component of the State Government's suite of workforce participation programs, which aim to strengthen Victorian industries and
communities by increasing workforce participation, particularly by assisting people facing significant barriers to employment.
Eligibility Criteria – Trainees
be aged between 15-24 years at the commencement of the trainee-ship;
be unemployed or not working more than 15 hours per week;
not currently engaged in tertiary education; and
have not attained a certificate 4 or above qualification.
